well, we drove all the way from minneapolis (St. Paul too for those who it
matters to) to see NIN twice now....we saw them in may at the riviera and
again a night or so ago at the UIC....i definitely liked the riviera as a
venue better overall, the crowd was better at the riviera too, but we really
did like the addition of the new songs and video/movie (btw, does anyone know
who put the vid together? kinda seemed like one of those shorts by the czech
(?) brothers whom i've forgotten the names of...)we were on the left side of
the stage in front of the pa, i had to get outta there midway through the
curtained portion of the show (i have a _bad_ back and couldn't handle the
crush/crunch anylonger)

we were really surprised at the lax security at the door, they hardly frisked
and there certainly weren't any metal detectors (heh, heh), the security
sucked at the front of the stage, they just kept pushing surfers back in, i
nearly got totalled at the beginning of the show between the security and the
boot of said surfers, i hate them guys....really, i do, it may be fun, but
it's hell when someone who weighs 50 lbs more than you comes down on you boots
first, nuff said.

as has been said the set list differed from the first part of the tour in may,
i'm really happy to know that as we have tix to see trent et. al. in mpls/st.
paul, milwaukee (or milliewaukee, as alice cooper put it in, well, you know)
and in kansas city, btw i'm not sure that anyone has mentioned the kansas city
(kansas) show, it's on the 17th of this fair month.....a smallish venue
(roughly a 4th of UIC) which i had the pleasure of seeing the smashing
pumpkins (no flames pleeze) in last march, it was an awesome venue, no
squishing etc....i only hope for the same/similar crowd conditions as there
was for the pumpkins just kuz i could stand at the front and dance and see the
band and not have my person squeezed into a smaller space than it ever should
be squeezed naturally, or kicked in the head, well, you get it.....

well, on to the show, it seemed that trent totalled at least two complete
keyboards, the keyboardist/guitarist/bassists keyboard was overturned at least
twice, undoubtedly more....trent smashed one keyboard repeatedly heaving it up
over his head and bringing it down on the stage a few times during one of the
earlier songs (sorry cant remember), that keyboard was already missing keys,
recycle, reuse, reduce.....

trent was smashing things throughout the show, he must have totalled a couple
of mics.....he even instructed the audience what to do if they caught one, and
even tried to hand one out to someone (so much for audience participation) he
said (and i quote, pretty closely :)) "pull it you pussies" "pull the cord out
and take it home with you" as he threw another mic out into the audience, "i'm
a big fucking rock star, i can afford it, right?"....earlier in the show he
threw a guitar into the audience.....he also toppled a light fixture thingy
towards the end of the show, he also kicked over a laser swivel light
thingy....money to "burn" (heh, heh)

overall it seemed that trent was feeling a little "rambunctious" shall we say,
maybe he was a little reserved in ohio (for his dear parents??????) and just
let it out in chicago, whatever, it was entertaining to say the least.....

i'm really not going to address MM other than to say that i think that they've
accumulated some new "toys" shall we say since may, they were tighter as a
group, but i'm not really into their music per se.

hole was ok, i was too caught up in the kurdt-thang, it seems so unbelievable
that courtney is out on the road....the new bass player did a good
job....what's to say.....technical difficulties were laughable, poor joe took
a beating from the audience (joe was her guitar tech.....) some guy next to me
was yelling at joe "common joe, get the lead out" etc. etc.....courtney's
cover of the song that kurdt et. al. covered on MTV (sorry i forget the name,
a meat puppet cover????) was great, but it made me very sad, her voice sounds
so much like his it's frightening.......she's one powerful lady i
think......sometimes stupid, but powerful in her will to "live through
this"......there was a song (i'm sorry i don't know hole very well, no flames
pleeze) she kept chanting/screaming, "i should have been the one to die", that
was very kreepy...

overall, i'm looking forward to seeing the next three (heh, heh) shows in
progressively smaller venues, it's one powerful bill, i'm glad i'm not missing
it......

cheers.....

OH, btw, on the way back home from chicago, we passed hole's and MM's tour
busses with no sign of the big black bus trent calls his own....:( but we do
know "they're here" :)
